Audit Director – State & Local Government

Location: San Jose, CA

Join a dynamic regional CPA firm seeking a leader to oversee our government-focused auditing division. This senior role offers a swift track to partnership, a balanced work-life approach, and flexible work arrangements, including a hybrid work setup. Relocation support is provided.

In this position, you will act as a strategic liaison among partners, clients, and staff, spearheading multiple auditing projects and ensuring a seamless workflow. With a focus on client relations, you will cultivate long-lasting partnerships while mentoring staff and driving new business growth. Your expertise will contribute significantly to the firm’s expansion, leveraging your background in public sector auditing to enhance client engagements and compliance.

### Core Responsibilities
– Build enduring client relationships and develop deep insights into their operations and systems.
– Assume a leadership role in engagements, either as the primary liaison or in cooperation with engagement partners, to ensure alignment with firm policies.
– Authorize attest opinions and oversee compliance in client deliverables.
– Oversee scheduling and execution of engagements, ensuring billing and collection practices meet firm standards.
– Supervise, train, and evaluate staff performance, and serve as a vital contributor in recruitment processes.
– Actively engage in business development to expand our network and client base.
– Lead initial interactions with prospective clients, including fee estimation and preliminary meetings.

### Required Qualifications
– Over 10 years of public accounting experience with expertise in auditing state and local governments.
– CPA license required, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
– Proven track record in business development and client retention within a CPA firm.
– Mastery in auditing standards, including GAGAS/Yellow Book and GAAS.
– Prior experience auditing not-for-profit organizations is advantageous.

### Working Conditions
